Thursday, July 28, 2011

Exercise is not only good for the body... it also has direct and positive effect on the brain. Research demonstrates that physical activity and movement makes actual changes to neurons resulting in improved cognitive functioning.

Rough and tumble play coordinates the higher functioning area of the brain.

It is simply essential to the health, learning, development and well-being of children to ensure time for outdoor play and recess is provided everyday!

Thanks for your comment Marlise. It is quite amazing that there is so much evidence to demonstrate the benefits and need for of physical activity isn't it? Hopefully as a result this will be a part of every child's day soon!

I have read some articles about schools that allow students to choose their activities for PE (may be lifting, aerobics, sports, whatever). Hope more schools choose to promote lifetime fitness skills in PE.
